Snowboarding Store Kjostinden Ben’s introduction to Lyngen

My friend Ben arrived in Lyngsedit from a long flight from Seattle and within an hour of his arrival we unloaded his gear and quickly got out so I could show him around the local area and give him a good introduction to the Lyngen Alps and snowboarding Store Kjostinden before the rain would come later in the day.

Once on the snowline we hung around for a little bit before skinning around the lower lake on heading up onto the glacier via the open snowfield on the right side of the photo

Time to put on the Splitboard
Lots of options with a relatively small approach

It was calling for a cloudy day but no moisture so we decided to ride as long as weather allowed

As we skinned around the lower bench and started the long traverse onto the glacier the lines in front of us caught are attention and we decided to go ride lines off the ridge before snowboarding Store Kjostinden

Enticing chutes in the distance

We decided to climb the main couloir in the middle of the photo and get a feeling for the snow.

Enticing chutes in the distance
Numerous chutes with a single bootpack…..yes please

We made our way skinning across the glacier to base of the line and skinned until it became to steep before transitioning

Not a bad view at all

We brought verts to test see how they climbed as we boot packed up the chute making our path straight up to the ridge

Once on the top we decided to ride back down the path that we went up but off to the side to preserve the boot pack

After riding down 2/3 of the line we decided to climb back up to the ridge and ride another chute via our old bootpack

Once on the ridge we walked a few meters further up the ridge and found the line we were looking for

This time we decided to drop down onto the main glacier and head for the summit of the Store Kjostinden massif

Once back on the glacier we transitioned to skinning and made our way up the glacier and around to the main summit.

From the summit we rode the long run all the way down to the lake below than skinned over to the snowline. It was great to end the day Snowboarding Store Kjostinden.

Ben was stoked having a great day and beating the upcoming rain front. Making the best out of the days before we celebrated with a beer on the shoreline.
