With the Treble Cone ski resort closed for the season I decided to take the opportunity to go check it out. I had rode it for a day when I first went to New Zealand almost 10 years back and I wanted to see if my perception had changed.
Before driving up to the resort I called to check it if was okay. I came to find that they kept the gate open between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. As long as I was touring within this hours it was perfectly fine.
The front side of the ski resort was melted out but I hoped I could find a snowpack on the backside. So I stored my board on my pack and started climbing.
Once on was on the main traverse to the backside things were looking a bit better. I was happy to start seeing snow and was thinking maybe the trip was worth it.
Ski Touring at Treble Cone Ski Resort
Once on the backside I found a healthy snow pack so I toured around and took a few laps within Treble Cone ski resort.
I took a few laps on the backside as the snow went all the way to the bottom of the ski lifts. Here I was at Treble Cone ski resort and I had the place to myself.
I was on a race against time. I didn’t want to get locked in the resort so after taking in a few laps and enjoying the views of Mount Aspiring National Park.
It was a fun day getting out and exploring the area. While I didn’t take many photos it was a fun trip non the less.
With the lack of snow on the lower slopes it meant it was time to get into the higher mountains and get into Ski Mountaineering Season.
Thought these areas were awesome I didn’t make it to many of the other club fields before they closed. It wasn’t until the 2014 season that I really started heading to the clubbies where I really fell in love with the New Zealand ski culture.
