Snowboarding in Argentiina had always been a dream of mine. The high mountains of the Andes seemed to offer lifetimes of ski tours and adventures. Though it never seemed possible that I would travel there the stars aligned in 2013. I had gotten the opportunity to be involved with the Sweetgrass crew while they were filming the movie Solitaire. Soon I was flying south and on a wild adventure for a month.
In 2013 I found myself Snowboarding in Bolivia and on an adventure of a life time. I was fortunate to be involved with the Sweetgrass Production crew for the filming of a ski film called Solitaire. Never in my life did I think I would find myself ski touring in South America and there I was climbing in the second highest Mountain range in the world. The Bolivian Andes is a region mixed with Mountains and Volcanoes with stunning scenery and a wild culture.
Finland……there’s so much that I could say about the stark contrast between Washington State and Rovaniemi, Finland, they might as well be different planets. Living so far north on the boarder of the Arctic circle we would head south to take a vacation in Alaska. At the Winter Solstice we had only 1 hour of sun as it barely dips over the horizon and living in Finnish Lapland we live in the coldest place in Europe and it’s built a tough and reserved culture. This last weekend both Jenni and I were invited to stay up at our friends Ilkka and Tuija Kauppinen cabin near Yllästunturi one of a handful of ski resorts two hours away from our home. We left home around noon with the temperatures dipping to -32 as we drove through endless open forest covered with all the snow that had fallen since mid December as it doesn’t rain during the winter in Lapland. Making up to there Cabin late in the afternoon.
With little time before it got dark Ilkka and I Snowshoed up a small section above his place. By now the temps were around -30 and as we climbed the peak I was very cautious not to sweat. It was soon going to get dark and it would be real hard to survive in the woods overnight. After climbing a few hundred feet we made it to our high point. The slopes above were exposed to the winds all season and still covered in rocks. 
The 2015 Southern Hemisphere season started with a trip to Australia. It was the Australian Splitfest time and Adam West was interested in if I wanted to put together a course. I decided on doing a “How to set up a base camp safely and explore bigger lines while taking in conditions”. It would be a brief trip but as always I was looking forward to it.
We were in a two week dry spell when I left New Zealand for Australia which was off to a solid season with a deep snowpack and awesome corn snow to be had not to mention it was great to see Adam West.
I landed in Sydney and Lee was kind enough to pick me up. Within 30 minutes of landing we were off to Jindyebyne, the Wanaka of Australia.
I was lucky enough to join forces with John Blankenstein and he took me to the secret steeps on OZ.
We met up with Wyatt and Yancy Caldwell at Sun Valley Idaho and with the use of sleds made our way into there backcountry zone.
We would use the sleds to get 3/4 up the slope then skin the final 10 minutes only to have a sled waiting for you at the bottom of the line. It was a great way to get the goods.
Our Plan? Hang out with my good friend Skier Dan in Big Sky, Montana.
We made it there the day before the storm so Dan showed me around his new home resort.
After coming back from Rogers Pass the snowpack was still poor and there was no snow in the foretasted future so Jason Hummel and I decided to go to Outdoor Retailer in Salt Lake City and do some side trips on the way back.
Our first destination of the trip was out to Wyoming where we drove out to a place called Teton Pass.
