Looking at Sjufjellet and Háhttagáisi in the Tamokdalen Backcountry
Looking at Sjufjellet in the Tamokdalen Valley from Istinden

When it comes to the most popular ski tours in the Tamokdalen Valley Sjufjellet might be the most. With easy access an relatively safe routes to the summit possibly the easiest peak to climb in the area. The standard route wraps from south to the east bowl before climbing the Northwest side. Once on top there are a handful of descent routes that offer runs to all abilities.

A Closer Look at Sjufjellet

The photo below is the view of the South face from the road. if you look close on the right hand side you can see the standard climbing route before wrapping into the upper bowl. If climbing the Southwest ridge you make it to the flats in the middle before climbing to the left of the upper rock band.

Here is a photo of the eastern bowl from near the summit of Blåbærfjellet. Below the open alpine there are a few routes into the valley but they are few and far between.

From this aspect you can see the cliff band a bit better as I chase the sunset climbing Blåbærfjellet.

While the east side of Sjufjellet is open bowls the west side is stacked with chutes. With a wind from the East this area gets wind loaded and should only be attempted in stable conditions.

Here is another shot of the West Chutes from near the summit of Háhttagáisi. As you can tell there are some really nice lines to be had but sometimes they are hard to spot because of cornices.

As you can see in the photos above Sjufjellet is definitely a classic ski tour in the Tamokdalen Valley. From Winter powder to spring corn there are quite a few options to make the most out of conditions. Even if the snow is bad this tour is worth it just for the view alone.
