Fløya Peak is one of many summits just outside of Svolvær in the Lofoten area of Northern Norway. With a summit elevation of 577 meters what it lacks in elevation it makes up in views. While it is nice ski touring this place is one of the best hiking destinations in Norway.

What do you do when conditions are terrible for skiing…..Road Trip. Sean Mollie and I decided to head to Lofoten as conditions were terrible in the Lyngen area in hope that we could actually find some good snow. If we couldn’t find anything good at least we would be surrounded by a truly stunning landscape.
Driving on the Lofoten Island road we pondered where we would camp as the sun set. Looking at maps I found what seemed to be a good area on the side of a lake and we set up our tents in the dark. The next morning we woke up surprised by the peaks surrounding us.
The rest of the day we drove around as tourists checking out the small villages and the reason the Lofoten Islands are so unique.
That night we set up camp near Svolvær at a beach I had past by the year before.
The next morning it was time to check out the snow conditions as we went for Fløya Peak. Being close to our camp and not that big of a peak we would be able to head up with time to spare. If conditions were good we would stick around longer but if not we would start heading back towards Lyngen.
Heading up the ridge the views of the Lofoten Peaks started coming out with the Narvik area in the distance. We were able to follow a low angle ridge into the upper alpine bowls with cliff bands below us.
Traversing under another peak we ere finally at the base of Fløya.
Finally we reached the summit of Fløya Peak and took in the views. Our fears were a reality with the snow being firm and not really worth doing laps on. In the end we decided to ski back down to the car and start heading back towards Lyngen. Sorry there are no photos but it was hard to motivate myself to stop to take riding pics.
