After the trip to Lofoten I was ski touring by myself out of Lyngsedit. Chatting with my good friend David he mentioned a fun link up tour of two lines Just out of town. Looking at the forecast it was calling for clouds in the morning before clearing up in the afternoon. It had been bad weather the past few days so I just wanted to get out.

Ski Touring up Goalsevarri

Leaving town the weather looked promising with the occasional break of blue skies. I decided to keep climbing as long as I had visibility and if things went bad I would just sit and wait for the weather to clear.

Skinning to the base of Goalsevarri the snow was dust on crust but it made for easy climbing conditions.

I quickly switched over to crampons as the slopes steepened and before long I was on the summit ridge. The once promise of clear skies seemed to deteriorate as I found myself in the clouds.

Waiting for better Weather

Standing on the summit of Goalsevarri I decided to wait until the sun came out over the next hour. I needed to make a decision to retrace my route or proceed further. In the distance I could see surrounding peaks in the sun.

Looking to the West the clouds started to clear out and I was able to get a good view of the basin I wanted to ride into.

Finally the sun came out on the slopes and I had a few minutes to ride down if I wanted to take advantage of it. I quickly threw on my snowboard and traversed to the snow loaded gully before riding into the basin.

Final Run of the Day

Climbing up to my next run the weather improved dramatically. This was a new area for me and I was a bit nervous. David had mentioned that I needed to stay skiers right to wrap around the cliff bands so I followed his advice. Fortunately it was easy to find my way down in one of the more scenic runs in the area.

Riding all the way down to the shoreline I had a 3 kilometre hike ahead of me. This had to be one of the better lines to get into the valley as I didn’t have to bash through and trees. Looking back up at the line I was happy that I took Davids advice staying left.

Hiking along the shoreline I was happy that I decided to go out. I was getting stir crazy from waiting around for better weather and it just felt good to be in the mountains for a few hours.
