Once again I was out touring solo and decided to head up to Store Kjostinden. I had not actually made it to the top of the peak before and I wanted to check out the views. The conditions were still not looking to good with dust on crust but the weather was good so I just wanted some sunshine.

Solo Trip up Store Kjostinden

The sun was out as I made my way up a small road before reaching the alpine.  It was a stunning day for views and I was stoked to look at the surround mountains and Lyngen Fjord.

Arriving at the base of Store Kjostinden it seemed like clouds were moving into the upper alpine. I decided to keep moving until there was a question of loosing visibility.

Before long I made it to the top of Store Kjostinden and had a clear view of the Southern section of the Lyngen Alps. I had two options for ski decent heading down the area in the photo below or the route I had come up. I thought about which way to go down for a while before deciding to go back the way I came.

Riding down I traversed over to check out a small chute hoping that it was holding good snow. Upon closer inspection I could see that it was ice and not worth doing.

What had taken me 3 hours to climb was descending in around 15 minutes. With a small hike on the flats in the basin I was back to snowboarding down the road. Being solo I didn’t take many photos as I was more focused on riding.

Thank you for reading this Trip Report.

Below is the other trips in my 2015  Spring Season attempting to find good snow.
